Mr. Prahl is a 61 year old central Illinois native with 35 years in the construction industry.
Prior to relocation to Tampa by Carl A. Nelson and Co. in early 1985 (Canco acquired that firm's Florida division in early 1986), he was Vice President Nelson and Company and for S.M. Wilson and Company/Holding Company (parent firm of C.A. Nelson and Co.) and was on the Boards of both Wilson and Nelson Companies.
Prior to joining Nelson in 1983, Mr. Prahl spent 10 years in sales and management with a major steel builder manufacturer, with the last three as regional manager in a 13 state area for Varco-Pruden Buildings Company.
In addition to management of Canco General Contractors, Mr. Prahl is active in the Greater Tampa, Plant City and Temple Terrace Chambers of Commerce, is past President of the Temple Terrace Rotary Club, is a 1989 graduate of Leadership Tampa and a member of that group's Alumni Association. He has been actively involved in the President's Advisory Council of VP Buildings for the past 14 years, currently serving his second 2-year term as chairman of PAC and also of its Executive Committee.
He served on Florida Governor Chiles' Advisory Group for the 1993 Worker's Compensation Reform Bill and served an 18 month appointment to the District 13 Grievance Committee of the Florida Bar Association.
He is active with numerous area charities and is an active member of the First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland.
Prahl is responsible for the overall management of Canco with a good percentage of his time directed to contract procurement and client relations. He is also a Co-managing partner in Frontage Real Estate Investments, LLC, owner/developer of a 30 acre business park being developed on Interstate 4 in Plant City, Florida. He also owns JP Properties-PC, LLC, a build/lease developer.
Completed projects for which he has been project manager include over 300,000 square feet at the Florida State Fair, Lexus of Clearwater, the Eagle Tile Plant in Sumter County, the Temple Terrace Public Works complex, Crosstown Community Church of Brandon, the 101,000 square foot First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland, Florida and twelve Sunbelt Rental stores across the southeast United States.
